On The Edge: City of Wolfforth Uses New SitePro Product to Connect Remote Assets
The City of Wolfforth is using SitePro's newest Edge device to effectively monitor components of some of its most remote assets.
As the City of Wolfforth continues to grow in population, so does its water and wastewater system. The city's critical infrastructure has expanded across larger geographic areas than it's existing radio network could reliably reach, so public works operators and engineers are navigating how to remotely monitor and control those more remote assets.
That's why they've taken advantage of SitePro's newest product offering: SitePro Edge.
The Edge offers scalable, field-ready monitoring solutions engineered specifically for remote applications and equipment. At a cost-effective rate, too.
"Where we put it [the Edge device], it was a pretty remote location. It currently has a radio in there, but we could use it in lieu of the radio because of the distance. It can offer a more reliable connection," said Greg Stout, SitePro Director of Engineering.
The city's Edge device installation is currently at a water well and is monitoring variable frequency drive (VFD) information including pump data and flow information. Edge is also providing remote water quality monitoring, including conductivity and system pressure, and is connected to a submersible pressure transducer to monitor the water table within the well.
"Any sensor we could think of, we were able to pick up in Wolfforth," Stout said. "The scenarios we're testing out would be great use cases for where we see this fitting for other customers. You know, monitoring levels in remote locations to control pumps, bringing in the flow meter information at water wells, easy translation into riser locations in the oilfield."
