As SitePro continues to work towards maintaining their strong reputation of helping increase efficiency and productivity for clients within the modern upstream oil and gas industry, their use of Azure Cosmos DB recently caught the attention of Microsoft. In a newly released video, Microsoft showcases SitePro and how Azure Cosmos DB has assisted the company in offering a logistical advantage for the modern oilfield.

Microsoft’s Azure Cosmos DB is a globally distributed, multi-model database service that enables users to scale and replicate their data no matter where they are. While offering multiple consistent models, Azure Cosmos DB presents data in real time and makes that data highly available from anywhere in the world. As a shift towards a more modern oil and gas industry became prominent, SitePro uniquely combined the traditional automation system and SCADA system into one application.

The platforms main purpose was to enable the digital oilfield by swiftly and efficiently acting upon data. Once SitePro realized too many ideas were being left to the side, they decided to make the switch from a physical server set-up to Azure Cosmos DB. With all the Azure Cosmos DB capabilities, which include key-value pairs and table and graph APIs, the switch now allows SitePro to provide extremely precise data to their clients in the blink of an eye.

"We can deliver a sensor reading in less than one second from the time it was taken in the field to your browser or app," says SitePro Co-CEO Aaron Phillips. "You have to have a scalable back end that can not only handle the different forms of data that is coming in but can allow you to access it in a useful and meaningful way. That's where Cosmos has been very key."

With the help of Azure Cosmos DB, providing real-time data has allowed SitePro to set a high standard in terms of customer service and satisfaction. The company prides itself in being able to deliver what their customers needs. By monitoring facilities with sensors, SitePro's Remote Operation Center can analyze all alarms sent from the sensors and recommend actions that will protect field personnel and customer assets. SitePro technicians are readily available to perform preventative maintenance to ensure that a client's site is running at its most effective potential.

"Prior to bringing SitePro on board, we would use PLC systems and third party SCADA systems," says LUXE Energy Production Foreman Max Williams. "There were a lot of communication issues talking back and forth and controllability problems whereas SitePro is a one stop shop. We've not only been able to reduce our facility build times but also increase our controllability on site."

With the newly released video, Microsoft shines light on how state-of-the-art SitePro's technology is and how it positively impacts the oil and gas industry. SitePro provides real-time information that increases efficiency and productivity for their clients at high levels and their automation solutions have pushed the boundaries of what the digital oilfield can do. While SitePro remains focused on making a profound impact within the oil and gas industry, the company believes their innovation can have the same effect in other industries.
